It’s strange to look back at old songs. With the Hard Times LP, which I wrote during my freshman and sophomore year of college, I can’t help feeling that I was such a little kid when I released it. The songs all centered around a girl who dumped me, too… I can’t believe I gave that much credit to one person, but hey, I hrave awrot of freelings. Haven’t written a love song since… haha. I’m still proud of it as my little piece of art (and as my first release) but it boggles my mind that I actually wrote it.
This was the first negative review I got on the record. It bummed me out so much that I vowed never to read a review again. I don’t know if that’s true or not anymore - I suppose we’ll see when I release “On Being” in November. Make sure to take note of the tags… “theft” being one of them. That made for a good laugh a few years later.
Regarding “On Being”, it’s a massive departure from this first record. So much so that I worry that the people who enjoyed the Hard Times LP will dislike it. Despite whatever happens, I’m so happy with the record and I absolutely can’t wait for it’s release. I truly feel that my band and I have, more than anything else, a piece of art in our hands. We officially finished all of the production a few weeks ago, but we’re also working on a whole slew of new material. We already have plans for a few single releases and an EP to release throughout 2012.
Lastly, Midwest Fest is this week in Mount Pleasant. It’s featuring the wonderful talent of… Frontier Ruckus (who we’ll be playing with on the Saturday of the fest, Oct 1st), Chris Bathgate, Lightening love, Stepdad, Phantasmagoria, The Crane Wives, Nathan K, and ESL!
